Little is known about the impact of the new coronavirus Disease “COVID 19” on women and babies, especially during pregnancy. The available data on COVID-19 do not indicate that women during pregnancy are at increased risk. However, it is known that women during the gestation period can be seriously affected by influenza and other respiratory infections. Therefore, pregnant women should be considered a population at risk for COVID-19. In the current situation, it is unclear whether COVID 19 can pass from the plecanthal route to the fetus in pregnant women. In the only study conducted on this topic, it was shown that COVID 19 was not detected in any of the babies born by cesarean section from COVID 19-positive mothers.

How Should Women During Pregnancy Be Protected from Coronovirus?
In fact, the methods of protection from coronavirus disease during pregnancy are no different from those recommended for the whole society. These;
• Trips abroad should not be made, especially in countries where this disease is observed.
• Hands should be washed with regular soap and water for at least 20 seconds, and alcohol-based hand antiseptics should be used in cases where there is no soap and water.
• When coughing or sneezing, the nose and mouth should be covered with disposable tissue paper, and in cases where there is no tissue paper, it should be used inside the elbow.

  • Crowded and closed environments should not be entered unless possible, mouth and nose should be closed if forced to enter, medical mask should be used and rooms should be ventilated frequently.
    • After washing hands, contact with mouth, nose and eyes should be made.
  • Sick people should not be approached at a distance of less than 3 steps (at least 1 meter) if possible.
    • Health centers should not be visited unless necessary, and contact with other patients should be minimized in cases where it is necessary to go.
    • Well-cooked animal products should be eaten, animal slaughter and production sites should be avoided.
    • Instead of ordering or eating food from outside, you should prefer dishes that you cook yourself at home. If you buy packaged food from the outside; hands must be washed before eating after touching the packaging, as the coronavirus can remain alive for 3 days on plastic and stainless steel.
